The Russian military has already killed 4 priests, at least two more are in captivity

During the three weeks of hostilities in Ukraine, at least four clergymen were killed and at least two more were taken prisoner (one was later released).

  • On March 1, the abbot of the Holy Trinity Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Hieromonk Feodosiy (Honcharov), was killed by shrapnel wounds from the shelling of the village of Grabivka in the Chernihiv region by Russian troops.
  • On March 2, the priest of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Fr. Maksym Kozachyna, who served in the church near the town of Ivankiv, Kyiv region, was killed by the Russian military. At the time of the murder, he was wearing the clothes of a priest.
  • On March 5, another priest of the OCU, Fr. Rostislav Dudarenko, was killed in his native village of Yasnogorodka, Fastiv district, Kyiv region, but his body was found only the next day.
  • On March 13, the military chaplain Abbot Platon (Morgunov) was killed in the town of Volnovakha, Donetsk region.

“From the first days of the large-scale war, Father Vasyl Vyrozub from Odessa is in captivity. He went with the civilian ship Sapphire to Zmiiny Island to pick up the bodies of dead border guards and the ship was captured by the Russians! Now he and the other members of the team are in captivity in Crimea. Ten other priests are missing, including Bishop of Sloviansk Vsevolod Matvievsky. He lived near Volnovakha and served in the local church.”

said the spokesman of the OCU Evstratiy (Zorya) in an interview with Radio Maria

Also on March 5, Oleksandr Kysliuk, a professor at the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, was shot dead in Bucha, Kyiv Oblast.
