ETHOS in practice during the war

At least 44 spiritual sites were destroyed or damaged due to Russian invasion

The State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Affairs and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) reports that since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, at least 44 spiritual sites were badly affected in at least 7 regions of Ukraine: Kyiv, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Luhansk, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv. Most of them are Orthodox churches, but also 3 Protestant churches, 1 Catholic church, 3 Jewish places of worship were affected.

In particular, on March 7, in the village of Vyazivka in the Zhytomyr region, a monument of national importance was destroyed – the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin. The wooden church, built in 1862, fell under artillery fire. According to the secretary of the Ovruch eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, only the bell tower of the church survived.
